Week 14 (Rules for reading words beginning with Hamzatul Wasl)
When Hamzatul Wasl comes at the beginning of a word, it can be recited in three ways:
1.When Hamzatul Wasl ٱ precedes letter ل, it becomes the definite article “Al”. In this case, Hamzatul Wasl is always pronounced with a fatha.
2.If there’s no ل after Hamzatul Wasl and the third letter in the word has a dhammah, Hamzatul Wasl will be pronounced with a dhammah.
3.Noل after Hamzatul Wasl and the third letter has a fatha or a kasrah, then Hamzatul Wasl will be pronounced with a kasrah.
Messages from the Quran:
قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوْلَىٰنَا ۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
“Say, ‘Nothing will befall us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is our master, and in Allah let all the faithful put their trust.” (9:51)
