Week 14 Overview

Week 14 (Rules for reading words beginning with Hamzatul Wasl)

When Hamzatul Wasl comes at the beginning of a word, it can be recited in three ways:

1. When Hamzatul Wasl ٱ‎ precedes letter ل, it becomes the definite article “Al”. In this case, Hamzatul Wasl is always pronounced with a fatha.

2. If there’s no ل after Hamzatul Wasl and the third letter in the word has a dhammah, Hamzatul Wasl will be pronounced with a dhammah.

3. Noل after Hamzatul Wasl and the third letter has a fatha or a kasrah, then Hamzatul Wasl will be pronounced with a kasrah.
